Dear MendMeShop,

I am certified in Rolfing, a form of deep, integrative bodywork and Massage. I use my hands alot for this work. Last September I broke my cardinal rule to limit activities outside work that would stress my hands. I laid down a bamboo floor on two stories of my house. I used a jigsaw and hydraulic nail gun which were hard on my hands. Shortly after completing the work, my right thumb gave out. It would either click and hang up when I bent it or lock up completely and refuse to bend at all. It was stiff and painful. After trying a number of home remedies including rest, ice, heat, essential oils, and manual manipulation, I finally went to see a hand doctor and yes, you guessed it, my choice was surgery or cortisone shots which are only effective in about a third of the cases. His diagnosis was "trigger thumb." The tendon was damaged, swollen and scarred, creating a lump so it would no longer move easily through the tendon sheath. The operation did not remove the lump, but rather slit the tendon sheath so the lump could move unimpeded. Well, that did not sound so great to me, as I think about fluids that the sheath contains and how the dynamics of my thumb may change forever. Having worked with many clients over the last ten years, I have seen how the body never really goes back to factory spec after a surgery, so if there were any other solutions, I wanted to find them. In March I found Mend Me Shop's website and read about the portable Ultrasound Machine. I ordered it that day along with a supply of gel. I have had consistent improvement in my thumb. I maintained the same work schedule and began their treatment protocol. At first I noticed the general tightness and swelling went down, then I noticed that the strength was returning. Some time after that, my thumb began to move again, sometime with clicking and sometime without. I have done several thirty day protocols so far and I am absolutely certain that my thumb will heal completely. The other day I had a totally normal thumb for the entire day, which delighted me and is a good indication of the healing that is taking place. We are often too much in a hurry to fix things, and rush into surgery or harmful medications. The body has enormous capabilities to heal and sometimes needs just a little help and patience. I find the staff at Mend Me Shop extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Customer Service is obviously a very important thing to them, which I appreciate, as that is how I treat my clients and it is nice to find that level of service me. I hope if you are reading this that you give this unit a try. The ability to apply the treatment yourself is not only cost effective, but also better from a healing perspective because as you follow the treatment protocol outlined for your condition, you can see and feel the accumulative effect. This would be difficult, not to mention expensive, if you had to go to an outside service.

Dear MendMeShop,

At the end of the 2009 school year, (I'm a teacher) I developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I remember literally being in agony the last day of school and calling my orthopedic surgeon for an emergency appointment. He saw me, prescribed ice, supportive shoes, and offered to give me a shot of corticosteroid. He informed me that the shot might help but it also might make it worse! Needless to say, with that comment, I passed on the shot. I was really having a hard time with the pain. I began to search on the internet to find out all I could about plantar facsciitis and possible regimens to follow to aleviate my problem.. One site led to another and I finally found MendMeShop. MendMeShop offered a foot wrap that sounded like the perfect way to ice my foot. The plantar Freezie gel pack didn't freeze solid and the wrap molded perfectly to my foot. It certainly beat a tub full of hard ice! After that, I began researching the little ultrasound machine offered at MendMeShop. I was a little afraid of the price, but decided, after reading many testimonials, to invest in something many said worked well for them. I used the ultrasound regularly with great success along with the plantar Freezie. Following the directions in the ultrasound box, (I also got a phone call from MendMeShop to help me with the machine) I felt a great deal of difference in the level of pain in my foot after just a couple of days treatment. The condition is now gone from my right foot. I routinely exercise fairly vigorously including jogging on the treadmill. I would never have been able to do that last summer! My husband and I continue to use the ultrasound on sore tendons and muscle spasms. The ultrasound was a bit of an investment, but who can put a price on freedom from pain?

Dear MendMeShop,

A few months ago my tennis elbow started to flare up again. I have gone to physical therapy for ultrasound treatments in the past and they worked. I'm not in a position right now to go to physical therapy, so thought I would just have to ride it out until I could get there. Then I came across this website and thought I'd give the Ultrasound Pain Therapy System a try. I'm glad I did. The pain has started to subside and I don't have to spend my money going to the physical therapist! I have friends who have tried my system as well and they are amazed at the results. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you MendMeShop!! Jean, WA

Dear MendMeShop,

Hello, I'm reporting into you that the arm wrap is working so good. Most of my pain is gone now. I have good movement of the arm. Can raise it up over head now and around to the back. Before I started the treatments I was not able to do these things. I am a believer of your product and I will continue to use it. I went to my Doctor today for my yearly physical and I told her about me ordering this wrap, as I did not want to go through another surgery on the rotator-cuff. I just got done doing my overhead pulley exercises on my arms and then I put on the wrap and it felt so good. I still am being very careful as to not over use the arm. I was able to run my vacuum today with the right arm and did great. Ok, just thought you would like to hear my progress and I am very happy with the results so far

More Tendon Facts:

Ultrasound can speed tendonitis recovery significantly.

A fully ruptured Tendon REQUIRES surgery. It will not heal on its own.

Except for a fully ruptured tendon, Tendonitis can almost always be cured without surgery.

Left untreated, tendonitis can be extremely debilitating and lead to life long complications.

Continually using your Tendon while it is injured will lead to a worse injury.

Dear MendMeShop,

I injured my roator cuff in left shoulder in Oct of '07. I had a cortisone shot shortly after and it felt good for a few weeks or so. In Dec my wife and I left for Florida for the winter suffered for three months with a sore shoulder. We returned in April visited the doctor and got another cortisone shot. About the same time I found your web site on the ultrasound units and decided to try it. I waited the 30 days from the date of the cortisone shot as instructed and started using the ultrasound unit. I can now say that for the first time since last Oct I am pain free without a cortisone shot and I attribute it to your unit. Thanks for a great product and great people to deal with, especially Deb for her help. Also, the information you sent with the unit was shared with the physical therapy unit of our local hospital and they have approved my wife to use it for post surgery use on her thumb. You may use me as a testimonial any time. Jim Patten

Dear MendMeShop,

After working for 22 years at a tree nursery, I developed rotator cuff problem in both shoulders because of the repetitious movement it takes to grade the seedlings on a table. Then I fell a couple of years ago, tearing the left rotator cuff. I have tried things like ice, special exercises, and ibuprofen. The ice and ibuprofen numbed the pain for awhile, then I would get a flare-up every time I would try to do a little yard work, such as raking. Afterwards, I would be unable to raise my arm for several days at a time, each time getting worse. I worried all the time about surgery, but knew it was not an option because of lack of insurance. One day, I had an idea to just type in rotator cuff into the Google search engine to see if I could find some new help. I just happened to come across the article about home ultrasound, and was happy to read that it could actually heal rotator cuff problems. This was back in March of this year. I wanted it then, but could not afford the price at the time. Just by coincidence, I checked the sight again a short time ago, and LO and Behold! It was on sale! Yes, I was going to get me one of those kits because I could afford it now! I was so thankful to get this deal. A prayer answered! Well, I have been using it faithfully and have noticed a remarkable improvement in my shoulders. I can even sleep on my side now, without getting up in alot of pain. I also have arthritis in my hands, especially in the right trigger finger. This is being a little more stubborn, but is not as chronic as before. I have learned to use the ultrasound more on the soft part of my hand, rather than over the bone area, because absorption is better.

Dear MendMeShop,

I'm sorry I missed your call to tell you how pleased I am with the [inferno] wrap. I've only had it six days and there is some improvement already. I sprained a ligament in both knees a month ago doing aerobics, and was beginning to feel I would never heal. The thermal wrap is just wonderful. I will certainly recommend it to anyone I know that needs such treatment. My husband will be eternally grateful for your product - he has to do the daily vacuuming from our exotic birds and our 3 dogs. Thank you for your phone call and offer of assistance.

The Secret of Ultrasound Therapy

Therapeutic Ultrasound - a Quick Overview

Ultrasound therapy application on a torn supraspinatus tendon in the shoulder.

Therapeutic Ultrasound is a method of stimulating tissue beneath the skin's surface using sound waves. The sound waves are very high frequency, typically between 800,000Hz and 2,000,000Hz, and can penetrate up to 4 inches below the surface of your skin. The sound cannot be heard by humans or animals (humans can only hear sounds up to about 20,000Hz). This very high frequency sound affects very small molecules and cells in the body, and actually causes them to move around.

The way ultrasound waves are transferred into the body is a function of many factors. The frequency of the ultrasound waves is actually opposite to how deep they will penetrate the body. For example, a 1MHz ultrasound will penetrate about 4 inches below the skin, whereas a 2MHz ultrasound unit will only penetrate about 2 inches. While a low frequency means deeper penetration, using too low of a frequency will mean that the waves are too wide to properly move the molecules. For therapeutic applications, 1MHz is the optimal frequency for both effectiveness and penetration.

Dear MendMeShop,

I am a runner and have been injured the last two months with a leg tendon injury. I purchased both the ultra sound and the leg inferno wrap about three weeks ago. I am now seeing great results where presently I can jog easy on it. So I am making progress. I will continue using both products as I suspect I will continue seeing results where I can race again.

Great Product!

Power output is another significant factor. It is measured in watts per square centimeter. The higher the power, the more energy is transferred into the body. If too high a power output is used and an ultrasound unit is left sitting still on the body, it is possible to burn the tissue beneath the skin. While several professional ultrasound machines are capable of these high powers, your medical practitioner will typically use a lower power setting, below 1 watt per centimeter squared. More power is not necessarily better. Though some therapists may use higher powers to speed up ultrasound treatments, it is actually more effective to use a lower power setting for a longer period of time to achieve the optimal healing effect.

1 mHz ultrasound waves penetrate up to 4 inches below the surface of the skin.

The power output rating is often broken down into two separate units: peak intensity and average intensity. Peak intensity can be thought of as how tall the sound waves being sent into your body are. The waves need to be large enough to affect the tissue and provide the desired therapeutic effect. At the same time, your body tissue needs breaks between groups of waves to cool down. So, Ultrasound machines actually send the waves in "pulses" (groups,) giving your body a vibrate-rest-vibrate-rest effect. The average intensity is a measure of how much energy is transferred over a period of vibrate-rest cycles.

medicated gel treats rotator cuff injuries

Ultrasound machines provide a Total Power Output rating. High power units are typically used with large applicator heads to treat larger areas of the body. The important measurement part of ultrasound is the watts per square centimeter mentioned above, not the total unit power. Again, it is more effective to treat the affected area more frequently and for longer periods of time, using a lower power setting.

When applied directly to the skin, an ultrasound device cannot effectively transfer the sound waves into the body. To make it work properly, a conductive medium is required - ultrasound gel. The gel simply makes it possible for the sound waves to travel from the unit head into your body. Ultrasound treatments without gel is ineffective, and can damage the ultrasound unit.

What Does it Do?

The heating and massaging effects of Therapeutic Ultrasound have two primary benefits. First, it increases blood flow to the treated area, which speeds the healing process. Second, it reduces swelling and edema, which are the main sources of pain.

MendMeShop Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound can also be used to administer therapeutic medicines into the body, through a process called phonophoresis. In such a case, there are 3 benefits to a treatment, the first two from the massaging effect of ultrasound discussed above, and the third from phonophoretically administering the medication. Ultrasound treatments with Phonophoresis are rapidly becoming more popular than Ultrasound Therapy alone, due to the added benefits.

For most injuries and ailments, a cycle of ultrasound therapy should optimally consist of 5-10 minute treatments, repeated 2-3 times per day for the duration of the healing period- this routine will mean fast, efficient healing, allowing you to get back to your normal life without being in pain. This surprises many people who have gone for single treatments in clincs only 2 or 3 times each week. The clinic approach, while providing the benefits of ultrasound therapy, simply become too expensive and too inconvenient.

Ultrasound Gets Rid of Inflammation Fast!

When you have a tendinitis or tenosynovitis injury, the area becomes inflamed as the damaged tissue cells release toxins. These toxins cause the injured area to be tender to touch, red, and sore to move. As the toxins and damaged cells accumulate, blood vessels become blocked and fluid gathers... resulting in swelling and pain. This is very much like the effect a dam has on a river - the flow is stopped and the fluid just builds up.

MendMeShop Portable Ultrasound Helped Control the Swelling...

I have begun to use the Ultrasound device and have had great results so far.

I have had five orthopedic surguries in the past 18 months and use the device on several areas. I had two torn ligaments and two torn tendons in my left left ankle. I went through physical therapy for over two months but did not find anyway to reduce the swelling.

After the first use of the device on Friday February 5th, I found the swelling to be greatly reduced. Now I can't use the device three times a day on all the areas that need attention, but once a day is working just fine.

My wife has begun to use the device also and has noticed a difference with her tennis elbow. We couldn't be happier at this point.

To rid the area of inflammation completely you need something to unblock the blood vessels and open the blood flow in the injury location. During ultrasound treatments, sound waves vibrate the soft tissue to reduce the blockage, decreasing the pooling of fluid and resupplying the injured area with much needed nutrients (allowing your injured cells to heal more quickly). Here's how it happens...

The sound waves bounce against the tissue, scattering the fluid that causes inflammation. This unblocks the dam allowing blood to flow normally again. Increased blood flow helps whisk away dead cells and toxins from the injured tissue. The sound waves speed your body through the inflammatory process - reducing symptoms of pain, swelling, redness and heat - and open up vessels to deliver fresh blood for healing.

...the key to faster healing.

Blood is your body's natural healer. It delivers oxygen and nutrients - elements crucial to regenerate and re-grow healthy tissue. Not only does ultrasound open up your blood vessels, it creates a thermal (warming) effect in the tissue cells. To counteract this warming effect, your body tries to cool the warmed tissue by sending blood to the area. This increases the amount of fresh oxygen and nutrients to the tendon for even faster healing!

Therapeutic ultrasound increases the blood-flow to your sore tendon, enhancing your body's natural healing process in a non-invasive and painless way.

Ultrasound Treats Your Painful Scar Tissue
Scar tissue blinds tissue together abnormally.

In most cases of a tear, strain, pull, or cartilage degeneration, scar tissue begins to form at the injury site, binding your tissues together abnormally.

Unlike healthy tissue that works like a stretchy elastic band, scar tissue is tough and inflexible. Most of us know of someone that just can't seem to recover from a soft tissue injury - a good example is a runner that has injured their achilles tendon: the injury stops hurting so they start running again, and the scar tissue from the old injury just prevent the achilles from flexing properly, so they keep straining it time after time. In fact, 90% of runners that have injured their achilles will reinjure their achilles again... this is what scar tissue can do - it turns a short term injury into a long term recurring injury.

Scar tissue limits the range of motion in your tendon (and attached muscle), greatly increasing the chance of re-injury (by overstraining), causes pain when stretching and can leave you vulnerable to a life time of chronic inflammation and pain.

Ultrasound is Key for Long-Lasting Results
MendMeShop Ultrasound reduces scar tissue from tendon and muscle injuries, improving range of motion and reducing the risk of chronic tendon conditions such as recurring tendinosis and tenosynovitis.

Ultrasound therapy is an essential step in keeping your soft tissue injury from debilitating you later on in life! As the sound waves 'bounce' against the scar tissue they 'micro-massage' and soften it, increasing the elasticity and restoring your tissue back to its normal state - good as new. This is essential because renewed, elastic tissue is healthier and less prone to re-injury. Get rid of the scar tissue and you reduce the chance of a chronic (life-long) painful condition, like arthritis or tendonitis, from setting in.

Scar tissue buildup makes it difficult and painful to move your limb easily, limiting your range of motion. As ultrasound treats your scar tissue you will notice it is easier to move again. This is a sign that your therapy is working.

No scar tissue = improved flexibility & range of motion

Physical Therapy employs massage techniques to remove scar tissue and they are very effective though painful. Often the pain is too much to bear and in such cases you have a person that sacrifices flexibility because he/she cannot bear the pain of having the scar tissue "worked out". Ultrasonic waves soften tough scar tissue with no pain or impact - but keep in mind that it can take months of ultrasound treatment to reduce scar tissue, so its not a quick fix.

Frequent Treatments = Quicker Results

The biggest secret of ultrasound therapy is...the more you do it, the better it works. It's that simple - ultrasound softens painful scar tissue and speeds up the healing process.

The treatments are easy, painless and the results are outstanding!

What Can Be Treated With Ultrasound?

An incredibly wide variety of ailments are treated using ultrasound. Essentially, ultrasound will help anywhere you need increased blood circulation and reduced swelling/edema.

MendMeShop Portable Ultrasound Device

Injuries to tendons, ligaments, muscles, and cartilage are excellent candidates for ultrasound treatments. Typically, these types of injuries are very slow to heal due to constant use and/or poor or slow blood circulation. Constant use of an injured area will only result in further injury. Regular applications of ultrasound therapy over the duration of the healing period will quickly and significantly reduce pain as well as recovery time- the ultrasound-stimulated tissue and increased blood flow speed the healing process, while the swelling/edema is reduced.

Most professional athletes use ultrasound therapy as a preventative measure to protect themselves against injury. Using ultrasound before and after very physically demanding activities aids in the warm-up/warm-down process. Athletes with chronic ailments from previous injuries also use ultrasound to promote circulation to the injured area and to reduce any swelling and pain which may impact their performance. Many professional athletes have purchased personal ultrasound units, due to their frequent use.

why-is-mendmeshop-portable-ultrasound-device-better

People who suffer from chronic ailments associated with swelling and pain will also experience great benefit from ultrasound. Those who suffer from Arthritis, Bursitis, Carpal and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, or swollen discs use ultrasound to reduce the swelling and pain associated with their ailment. Non-chronic conditions, such as Plantar Fasciitis, heel spurs, arch pain, or soft tissue/joint injuries in general can be treated and even eliminated with ultrasound therapy. For conditions such as Arthritis, however, ultrasound therapy unfortunately cannot eliminate the disease, but it can reduce the pain and swelling significantly- this allows sufferers to get back to their normal day-to-day activities. When used for treating painful conditions such as these, ultrasound is typically applied using a medicated gel to gain the phonophoretic benefit as well.

As a therapeutic massage device, ultrasound is very effective at reducing muscle tension. People who suffer muscle tension headaches and migraines can use ultrasound on the back of the neck. This is a very common procedure used by massage therapists and chiropractors to treat headache sufferers.

AidYourTendon Customer Reviews

Massage therapists will often offer ultrasound treatments in conjunction with regular massage, as a pain free method of releasing trigger points and "knots" in all the muscles. Using ultrasound on the trigger points of injured muscles helps to relax and reduce the trauma of the injury. When relaxed, the muscle can heal and recover from the injury much more quickly and more effectively, with less scar tissue formation. While full body ultrasound treatments are not practical, ultrasound treatments on specific injured areas are very effective.

Why Do I Need Ultrasound Gel?

When applied directly to the skin an ultrasound head cannot effectively transfer the sound waves into the body. To make it work properly, a conductive medium is required - ultrasound gel.

The gel simply makes it possible for the sound waves to travel from the unit head into your body. Ultrasound without gel is ineffective and can damage the ultrasound machine.

Tendon Injury Facts:

When the tendon gets inflamed it is known as tendonitis, and when the tendons are chronically overused, it may lead to microscopic tears in the collagen matrix and causes a gradual weakening of the tissues.

Achilles tendonitis is a common injury among runners, as the Achilles tendon is responsible for helping you lift off the ground with each stride.

As computers become ever more important elements of the work place and everyday life, incidents of wrist tendonitis are on the rise.

Oral Medications can mask the pain but do not aid in the healing of tendonitis. Anti-inflammatories and pain killers can cause tendonitis to worsen.

Ice and Compression are the easiest and most effective treatments for tendonitis.

Dear MendMeShop,

I got a really good deal on this ultrasound product. I had seen others 2 to 3 times the price and pretty much the same model. It arrived on time and new in box not refurbished. Product really sped up my healing process like advertised. I would recommend this to anyone with an ankle injury, as you know it can be a long process of healing, icing and wrapping my ankle/foot alone wasn't enough, i heard about these products and gave it a try specially for the deal i got. Went to doctors, got x-rays and spent all that money for nothing. This is the second time i had an injury like this, now i have this product i wont has to go through that long process of healing and wasted doctors visits ever again. Thanks Paul from MendMeShop.com

Dear MendMeShop,

PAUL, You might remember me emailing you a few months back about my goal was to get back into ice speedskating in April with my torn meniscus. Well,l I missed it! Didn't make it till last week on the nth of May!! My knee held up very well during my first tryout on the ice in spite of the problems of skating in a darkened rink with spinning spotlights dancing around the badly roughened ice surface. My main trouble was getting back my sense of balance. It's amazing what 8 months of recuperating off ice will do to your speed skating technique. Anyway, my second try was on the 20th where the ice was in perfect condition and the ceiling lights were on. I was able to relax my stride much better and gain back a lot of balance (and nerve!) but still a little shaky. Nevertheless, during all this time I felt only little pain from my injured meniscus. After the ice session I followed up with ice and ultrasonics . My knee bending range seems to be very good based on how low I can get into the crouched position as required during speed skating. I will have to improve my balance a lot more before I do some crossovers for turning around the curves. I have an excellent pair of knee braces that I wear on both knees and take 5 minute breaks, Each new return to the ice from the break feels better. I continue to daily apply the ultrasonic gel treatments at least once each morning preceded by heat on the elevated knee and this helps me get trough my clockmaking labors during the day. This includes climbing 6' ladders, and installing 40lb grandfather clock weights , lots of standing and lifting clocks into the van for delivery into each customer's residence!. All in all, I feel very good about being able to get back into my normal 81-year-old life again. Most important I wish to express my gratitude to you and your staff for the l successful treatments you provide. Anthony B. Cistola

Dear MendMeShop,

I recently ordered the Inferno Wrap and wanted to tell you how great it worked. I had a minor MCL tear and bursitis of the knee from a fall on ice in February, yes here in the Southern US, we do have ice sometimes and we don't know how to walk on it. Well, to make a long story short, I healed much faster and will recommend your product to others. Also, a representative from Mendmeshop called and asked how the product was working. This is unheard of in today's world. I never realized how long or involved a knee injury could be. Thank you for such a wonderful product.

Dear MendMeShop,

I am a daycare operator and I am very active at work. The building where the daycare is housed contains three flights of stairs, which I walk up and down all day. Early in the summer I had suffered a rather severe meniscus injury, as it developed a tear. Being concerned, my doctor had wanted me to do surgery but I wanted to see if there were any alternatives. Going online, I came across your website and I decided to try the portable ultrasound system to help relieve the pain and inflammation. I am pleased to say that using the ultrasound device has allowed me to avoid surgery. My orthopedic doctor is happily surprised that I have recovered so quickly. I actually feel better each day I use ultrasound. Currently, I am using the ultrasound twice daily, down from the three times daily I started with. Being a 60 year old, I think the results are dramatic and I am quite pleased. The pain is literally gone and I can now sleep better at night.

Dear MendMeShop,

I wanted to take a moment to Thank You and to let you know the fantastic success I have had with your Ultrasound! I'VE FOUND IT TO BE A REMARKABLE PRODUCT !! After 18 months of knee pain, stiffness, and medical attention, I have gained definite flexibility and increased comfort from using the Ultrasound three times a day. After many years of playing tennis I walked off the court with knee problems that braces could not help. A MRI found complex tearing of the medial meniscus with severe medial arthrosis. Follow-up with orthopedists and cortizone shots provided temporary relief, but I returned to limping within three months. Surgery was recommended but I opted for physical therapy. I was hoping to seek ultrasound treatment through PT as I have had this treatment for a torn tendon in my ankle, the result of a handball injury 20 years ago. I could find no therapists who utilize this treatment in my current central Virginia area. After 60 years of playing sports, strains and pains, yet no surgery, I took to the Internet for a last-ditch effort. My search led me to the Mend Me Shop and this great little wand. In just two weeks I can walk without limping, get in and out of a chair without moaning and I'm certain I will survive without surgery. Yep, I'm hoping to be back on the courts in the spring, maybe I'm not old enough to know better. Anyway, I'm convinced that the ULTRASOUND is an effective, reliable and easy to administer treatment. I would certainly recommend it to others who are experiencing the type to problems that it is recommended to treat. Thanks again for the Ultrasound and to the MendMeShop.
