More Tendon Facts:

Ultrasound can speed tendonitis recovery significantly.

A fully ruptured Tendon REQUIRES surgery. It will not heal on its own.

Except for a fully ruptured tendon, Tendonitis can almost always be cured without surgery.

Left untreated, tendonitis can be extremely debilitating and lead to life long complications.

Continually using your Tendon while it is injured will lead to a worse injury.

To Heal as fast as possible:

Rest
Use a Cold Compression Wrap
Get Therapeutic Ultrasound Treatment
Avoid Pain Killers

Dear MendMeShop,

I use the ultrasound machine for my hip bursitis. I used it every day for 2 weeks and could really tell a difference. Now I use it every few days. I have very little pain now and can walk a lot longer each day. I decided to try the ultrasound machine because the doctor I went to had used one on my hip in his office. I love the fragrance of the lavender gel and can feel it working after I am done with the machine. Give it a try. It is easy to use and the lavender gel is great!!!

Dear MendMeShop,

This unit and the results are amazing. I've had plantar faciitis for 8 months, am wearing orthotics, stretching multiple times a day, icing, night splints, and nothing really was working. I used it twice a day, 10 minutes on Medium for 14 days, and by then I only had mild tenderness in the morning. The third week, I went to every other day and this week, the 4th, I'm off completely. I have a tiny bit of tenderness here and there, so I will probably go back to using it next week and do at least a partial rotation through the 4 week cycle. I'm also still using a night splint. After 8 months of terrible pain every day, I finally feel like I'm going to get over this! Thank you MendMe Shop!

Supraspinatus (Rotator Cuff) Tendinitis/Tear

Torn supraspinatus tendon of the rotator cuff.

The rotator cuff is a term given to four main tendons that wrap around the shoulder joint, the supraspinatus tendon being the tendon coming off the shoulder blade in the top portion.

Rotator cuff tendonitis (also spelled tendinitis) and tears often occur gradually, though many are associated with sports injuries (especially baseball and swimming), falls on the shoulder, or an added injury due to shoulder dislocation in elderly folk. If you've ever been diagnosed with bursitis, it's possible the supraspinatus tendon is the true source of your pain, not the shoulder bursa. In this case, the pain does not resolve with typically prescribed anti-inflammatory medications.

Symptoms of Chronic Supraspinatus Tear

If a tear or rupture in your rotator cuff tendon occurs over time you may experience the following symptoms.

Supporting your arm while you sleep can reduce the tear on your rotator cuff and the pain during the night.
  • Pain in the shoulder when doing a repetitive shoulder activity that eventually becomes noticeable when the shoulder is at rest.
  • Atrophy or weakening of the tendons and muscles in the rotator cuff.
  • Pain that starts as a dull ache and progresses to a radiating pain from the shoulder, especially when sleeping.
  • Sudden pain when reaching above the head or bringing the arm out to the side.
  • Muscle spasm and weakness in the arm and shoulder area with limited range of motion.
  • A crackling sensation may be felt as the condition worsens.

Supraspinatus Tendon Tear Risk Factors

Repetitive overhead movements without properly warming up (lifting object overhead for work, chopping wood, swinging a hammer, participating in sports such as volleyball, baseball, tennis and rowing) can cause the supraspinatus tendon to weaken over time making it more prone to a tear, tear, and rupture.

Stretching to warm up properly before activity can help reduce the risk of a rotator cuff tear.

Because supraspinatus tendon injuries are often a result of overuse, people over 40 are at greater risk of degeneration and rotator cuff tears due to the body's natural weakening of the soft tissue over time.

Slouching your neck and shoulders forward can also cause excess stress on your supraspinatus tendon because the space for your tendon between the bones in your shoulder become smaller. This can lead to rotator cuff tendons becoming pinched by the bones in your shoulder.

Lack of strength to support the glenohumeral joint of your rotator cuff leads to a greater risk of incorrect movements. This can cause wear and tear on a tendon and weakening over time.

Tendon Treatments

When treating a strained supraspinatus tendon, rest the area (this can be difficult to do, as many common daily activities work this tendon), apply cold compression for 10-20 minutes at a time for at least 3 times a day. Do this to the injured area for the first day up to 3 days. Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy may be used after the acute swelling is improved. Cold compression therapy will reduce initial inflammation and swelling and Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy increases blood flow through the area to speed the healing process. This can be further helped by the use of ultrasound applications over the affected area, as it reduces swelling quickly and increases blood flow to the area, helping the tendon heal more quickly.

Tendon Injury Facts:

When the tendon gets inflamed it is known as tendonitis, and when the tendons are chronically overused, it may lead to microscopic tears in the collagen matrix and causes a gradual weakening of the tissues.

Achilles tendonitis is a common injury among runners, as the Achilles tendon is responsible for helping you lift off the ground with each stride.

As computers become ever more important elements of the work place and everyday life, incidents of wrist tendonitis are on the rise.

Oral Medications can mask the pain but do not aid in the healing of tendonitis. Anti-inflammatories and pain killers can cause tendonitis to worsen.

Ice and Compression are the easiest and most effective treatments for tendonitis.

Dear MendMeShop,

I LOVE this product. I have only been able to treat on a partial schedule just because of time constraints. But even at that I'm feeling great, getting flexibility back I haven't had for a long time. I have had to limp at times in the past but those days seem gone. After starting treatment I did notice some stiffness with walking every few hours, almost as if my body was saying it's time to treat the problem again. But that was last week. I'm not even feeling that now. I am amazed how fast this is working. I am definitely 100% pleased. I feel rejuvenated. I am a happy camper. Thank you! The delivery was lightning fast with regular shipping. Bless you. With regular shipping technically I could still be waiting another week to receive the product, but you are doing even a great job that way. It came in 2 1/2 business days!!!!

Dear MendMeShop,

I have adhesive capsulitus and supraspinata calcification. I was advised by the specialist to rest the joint and let it heal itself with little to no recommendation re exercise (say 6/12/18 months!!!). After seeing an osteopath and researching the internet I saw your site re ultrasound and asked my physio his opinion. He loaned me a commercial unit and after three days treatment (three times per day) with exercise in the shower my inflammation was reduced and range of movement radically increased. Hence the order from Mendmeshop and I have used the Ultrasound unit since receipt. I am now back at golf with no pain from the golf swing and virtually full range of motion of the arm. Have also used to radically reduce soft tissue soreness around the ankle bone and knee hence I am very pleased with the Mendmeshop Ultrasound unit and the service provided by Mendmeshop prior to purchase. I bought two and I am taking the second unit across the country for my sons Xmas present as he has used Ultrasound to help with back problems.

Specialized Rotator Cuff Customer Service Advisor can help you with product selection.

Dear MendMeShop,

I am a very active individual. If I am not running or lifting weights you can usually find me doing various outdoor and home improvement projects. That is why when I recently started experiencing pain in my shoulder, upper arm and forearm I concluded that I had aggravated an old rotator cuff injury. Initially I ignored the discomfort, thinking that that would make it magically disappear but, to my disappointment the pain only continued to get worse. After a couple of months of I pain, I decided to do something for myself. I tried stretching exercises, massage, the heating pad and ibprofen but nothing seemed to be helping. That's when I went online and found the Mend Me Shop. I remember that the Doctor that treated my first injury prescribed ultra sound treatments twice a week. The idea of doing those myself, at home, was very appealing and the inferno wrap for the shoulder seemed like a good way to wrap the heat around the immediate area that needed treating. When I picked up the package from the post office I was anxious to get started. I was so pleased that after only three days of using the products, I was feeling relief. It's only been a little over a week since I started treatments and I can say that I can once again imagine living without the that constant pain. Thanks so much for the relief !!!
